PRETRIAL ASSOCIATE (formerly ROR Interviewer)
The New York City Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is a not-for-profit pre-trial and research service organization. We provide pre-trial services to the courts and about 300,000 persons arrested annually in New York City. CJA’s primary operation consists of screening criminal defendants arrested within the five boroughs of the City for pre-trial release. CJA operates 24 hours a day, conducting release interviews in police department detention facilities throughout the city. This is a great entry level opportunity, with on-the-job training. 4 weeks vacation, union benefits, tuition assistance, and retirement savings plan.
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Interviews defendants in Police Department detention facilities and courts to gather information such as home address and telephone number, length of residence, present schooling or employment.
Records defendant’s interview responses using hand held devices
Performs telephone verifications with people whose names are provided by defendants;
Determines release recommendations for defendants using approved and standardized system;
Telephones defendants in the community to notify them of their upcoming court dates;
Monitors arraignment outcomes in court and assist defendants’ family and friends by estimating arraignment times;
Explains bail payment procedures to defendant’s family members;
Transfers information between arrest data sharing systems.
Bachelors degree from an accredited college
Computer literacy required in both mobile and desktop devices
SALARY: $32 -$37K + (top salary includes night differential for shifts after 3pm)
