Research Analyst (Senior Level, PhD)




Senior Research Analysts serve as project directors and are responsible for:

  •   Developing, designing, and implementing research projects
  •   Cleaning data and managing complex datasets
  •   Conducting statistical analysis of data
  •   Writing research reports
  •   Sharing responsibility for on-site training and supervision of project staff
  •   Participating in Departmental and Agency activities through ongoing discussion and collaboration with colleagues


The Senior Research Analyst will direct large-scale research and evaluation projects using CJA data. To accomplish this, the Senior Research Analyst will develop research proposals, prepare, clean, and analyze data and communicate results orally and in writing.

The Senior Research Analyst will become familiar with relevant literature, case processing policies and practices in New York City and CJA’s case processing data to effective perform the stated duties.


  • The position requires a Ph.D. in criminal justice, sociology, political science or psychology. 
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 3 years of work experience conducting applied research,
  • strong methodological and statistical abilities, and excellent oral communication and writing skills. 
  • Strong SPSS programming skills and an interest in data cleaning, data management, and statistical analysis are essential. 
  • Good interpersonal and supervisory skills are required. 
  • Applicants with experience using logistic regression for predictive modeling and knowledge of risk assessment literature preferred.
