Program Associate


Queens Supervised Release Program

The Criminal Justice Agency (CJA) is a non-profit organization under contract with the City of New York to provide pre-trial and research services to the courts and operates a Supervised Release Program in Queens Criminal Court. The program, which operates during the day and night court in Queens, screens targeted defendants for release at criminal court arraignment, subject to specific conditions including maintaining face-to-face and telephone contact with the program, participating in an assessment process to identify needs such as substance abuse and mental health, and agreeing to program monitoring of court appearances and re-arrests.


Under the direction of the Program Manager, the Program Associate provides support for overall office management, including program auditing, data management and gathering of data for the generation of all reports related to the Supervised Release Program. The successful candidate will possess a combination of the following knowledge, skills, and experiences:

Office Administration

  • Greets clients as they enter the office
  • Answers and directs phone calls from clients and program contacts
  • Prepares Personnel Action Forms for Human Resource and Payroll Departments
  • Reviews staff time-sheets in preparation for approval by Program Manager
  • Attends weekly team meeting to take minutes and follow up with staff on agreed upon tasks, deliverables and deadlines
  • Office management, including inventory and requisition of office equipment and supplies
  • All other clerical and administrative tasks as assigned by the Program Manager or Clinical Supervisor

Program Support

  • Proof-reads, reviews and edits progress reports submitted for each client's court appearance; ensure that progress reports are finalized in a timely manner for delivery on court date
  • Quality Controls existing databases, reviewing, and updating client information, including failure-to-appears, re-arrest and exit information, where discrepancies or anomalies exist
  • Reviews court calendar daily to identify client dispositions
  • Documents all client contact in the database
  • Audits the tracks systems currently in place to monitor program data with some latitude for suggesting or implementing improvements
  • Compiles and updates the resource directory for referral purposes
  • Assists in preparation of detailed performance reports for Judges, the Mayor's Office and other stakeholders
  • Compiles information from various database systems used to create integrated and comprehensive reports
  • Works directly with program staff to answer policy questions and ensure smooth daily functioning of program


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology, Urban Studies, Political Science or related field
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience and transferable skills

Required Skills

  • Excellent proof-reading skills (proper grammar, sentence structure and punctuation, etc.)
  • Keen attention to court-relevant details and to the accuracy of information presented in various databases
  • Ability to use critical thinking to trouble shoot and solve problems
  • Acute attention to detail to protect data quality and integrity, identify trends and correlations from raw data
  • A strong aptitude for working with numbers with the Ability to identify data discrepancies and proactively reconcile conflicts
  • Polished and professional interpersonal and verbal communication skills
  • MS Excel proficiency (creating spreadsheets, formula calculations, etc.)
  • Advanced MS Word with knowledge of editing and review features, charts, graphs and tables
  • Organized and structured work habits with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks, document work flow and maintain a comprehensive filing system
  • Management of meeting and program calendar including arranging and coordinating internal and external meetings


  • Bilingual proficiency, preferred
  • Capable of responding to critical matters with a sense of urgency while maintaining a calm demeanor
  • Self-directed and able to complete tasks with minimal oversight
  • Ability to use informed judgment
  • Takes initiative to research issues which impact the program's operations and daily functions
  • Adaptable and patient when faced with sudden changes in policy, procedures and processes
  • Willingness to travel within the 5 boroughs
